Abstract:

Architectural Democracy proposes a framework to explore the relationships between architecture and democracy. The proposed matrix creates common ground for diverse stakeholders to better understand the complexity of cities, and thus to participate more actively in it. It is argued that this process provides a structured tool to evaluate the quality of both architecture and democracy. It contextualizes the concept of ‘Architectural Democracy’ and gives the possibility to gather data from both citizens and experts, and to later develop it into a quantifiable set of metrics.

Keywords:

architecture, democracy, digitization, open systems, smart city, right to the city
